Taffs Well RFC take cup spoils in local derby

Taffs well are through to the second round of the Swalec bowl competition after a comfortable win at Tongwynlais. It was the first ever competitive game between the sides that are only two miles apart. The home team tackled hard throughout and to their credit never gave up, but the creative talent in the Taffs Well side was to much for them to overcome. Taffs well ran in twelve tries in total player coach Gavin Close helping himself to three, Ronan Barrett, Max Watkins and Lewis Edwards helping themselves to two each with Garyn Lucas ,Adam French, and Graham Harvey all crossing for one each. Outside half Jamie Field took the kicking duties and slotted over four conversions for a 68-5 victory . The never give up attitude of Tongwynlais players was rewarded midway through the second period when they scored their only try.
Its back to league action on Saturday with a difficult away trip to early pace setters Tylorstown but the confidence gained from a good start to the season should help the team in their quest for another good performance .
The second xv are also unbeaten so far and followed up an excellent East district cup win at Pontyclun with a 39-12 league win at Barry. Star of the show was hooker Elliott Shorte who scored three tries , captain Paul Collins, Steve Tapper and Ryan French crossing for a try each .Ryan also added three conversions and a penalty goal to his tally.
