Taffs Well gained promotion as champions from division 3 south east b ,with a 52-12 win at Cefn Coed on Saturday ,but still have three games to play before the end of the week ,to finish their league campaign. After victory at Penygraig last weekend ,Taffs Well traveled to Tonyrefail on Thursday ,recording a 34 --13 win to keep up their unbeaten league record . First half tries from Gavin Close and two from second row James Barry ,the second made by a brilliant break from wing Chris Burgwyn, plus a convertion from Shaun Baggs ,gave Taffs Well a 17-3 interval lead. Despite two second half tries for the home side, Taffs Well pulled away with further touchdowns from Martin Detorres ,Craig Field and Chris Burgwyn while Shaun Baggs added one more convertion . The game at Cefn Coed was not as easy as the scoreline might suggest ,with former Taffs Well player Chris Payne ,now coach at cefn, making sure his side stepped up to the challenge, and although Taffs Well crossed for four first half tries , scored by Gavin Close (2) James Dixon and Ronan Barrett, the home side scored  twice  to keep in touch at 24--12. The second began with Cefn Coed putting Taffs Well under pressure ,but a turn over and a fine run by wing Ronan Barrett ,who scored his second try of the game ,tipped the game towards the visitors. The Taffs Well backs looked dangerous every time they moved the ball ,leaving the home defence struggling to cope ,so it was no surprise that Taffs Well ran in another three  tries to seal  the win ,Ronan Barrett scored his third try while Chris Burgwyn and hooker Mathew Desmier completed the eight try route ,and a 52--12 final score . It seems Taffs Well  are being penalized for having a successful season ,with non of the seven outstanding fixtures that had to be played in two weeks , cancelled by Taffs Well , indeed some of these fixtures going back to the first half of the season ,but Taffs Well were told they must play them all by 21 may ,or be relegated. That has resulted in the ridiculous situation of asking players to play seven games in thirteen days, and although the players have responded magnificently its not acceptable to put them in that position . The last three games are Abercwmboi away Monday, Llandridod wells home Tuesday and Cowbridge on Thursday  away, while a party of  40  will travel to Dublin on Friday morning for a end of season tour .
