Taff Well Cup run continues

Taffs Well are through to the last 32 of the Swalec bowl competition after a hard fought win over fellow league oppenents Abercwmboi. Taffs Well were forced into a late change when fullback Shaun Baggs withdrew due to work commitments, resulting in wing Ronan Barrett switching position and Owain Marchbank making his club debut on the wing. After a bright start and a couple of good attacks ,Taffs Well scored the first try of the game when wing Gavin Close crashed over in the corner .This was followed by a positive response from the visitors who looked dangerous  with ball in hand but it was the Maes Gwyn outfit that scored next with their second try when Ronan Barrett went over after good work by the pack, while Jamie Field putting over the conversion ,leaving the score 12-0 at the break. The second half saw Abercwmboi work hard to get back into the game mounting a sustained attack on the home line ,but Taffs well defended with huge commitment ,and refused to be beaten. Taffs Well moved from defence to attack and should have wrapped up the game after a  dominant scrum gave them the opportunity to score but  they  couldn't take their chance. With time running out Abercwmboi finally breached the home defence after a series of short range attacks they went over for a try ,which they converted to make the score 12- 7 . The final few minutes saw both teams giving everything but the whistle went before any further score was possible to give Taffs Well victory over a very good Abercwmboi team.Team manager Richard Baggs was full of praise for the team saying " the pack were once again outstanding with man of the match Graham Harvey showing his total commitment to the cause " . It is difficult to pick out individuals as the whole team played well, but the returning scrum half Garyn Lucas ,,second row Tommy Guy and flanker Lewis Edwards all had huge games .Both clubs can take a lot of satisfaction out of their performances and  everyone will be  looking forward to the first league meeting which is to be rearranged for early next year. Taffs Well have a break next Saturday but are back in action at home to St.Albans on boxing day kick off 1. 00 pm
