TWRFC v Cowbridge

Taffs Well moved back to the top with a home win against Cowbridge, making it seven straight wins for a perfect league record so far. Taffs well had received a blow before the kick off when player coach Rhys Watkins pulled up during the warm up and had to withdraw but Chris Palmer  a product of Taffs Well youth had an excellent game as a late replacement.  The first fifteen minutes was fairly even then player coach Gavin Close broke through to score his sides first try which was soon followed by tries from Adam French and Ronan Barrett, both converted by fullback Shaun Baggs to give Taffs Well a 19--0 interval lead. The second half saw the home side continue to play well both in attack and defence and it was a break out from their own half that gave Taffs Well their fourth try when wing Ronan Barrett raced through to beat the Cowbridge defense and touch down for the try that gave his side the  bonus point.  The best try of the game came when Barrett was put through a gap he stepped past two defenders to score his third try of the game , both converted by Shaun Baggs. Cowbridge never gave up and their efforts were rewarded with two late converted tries but by then the the game was won. The game saw a first start for scrum half Craig Field who played along side his brother Jamie who returned to the side after injury. Man of the match award went to number eight Max Watkins. This Saturday Taffs Well take a break from league action to face their biggest challenge so far when Abercwmbol are the visitors kick off 2.30 pm.
