On the road success!!!

The start of the new year saw Taffs Well carry on from the old one with another big win to confirm their position at the top of 3 east central B.               After a 66--0 win against St Albans on boxing day the trip to Llandrindod Wells produced a 50 --0 victory ,to give the team 116 points in two games without conceding a point. Taffs well came under early pressure from the home team who kept the ball close to their pack ,which seemed a good ploy with a very heavy pitch ,and this set the pattern for the game ,but the Taffs Well defence soaked up all the pressure without conceding a point, and then they broke out  getting the ball wide for Mathew Wright to go over for his sides first try .It was then Taffs Well who put pressure on the home line and after a driving scrum was collapsed by Llandrindod ,the referee awarded a penalty try ,converted by Ross Lucas. Center Ronan Barrett crossed for his sides third try just before the break, again converted by Lucas, for a 19--0 lead. After the break Taffs Well ran in five more tries, with a second for Barrett, two for man of the match ,scrum half Garyn Lucas, one for Max Watkins, and one for outside half Ross Lucas ,which gave him a 15 point match total.Although Llandriddod are bottom of the league they worked hard throughout and kept going right to the end ,looking a much better team then their league position would suggest , as for Taffs Well , this group of players are turning out to be a bit special,as every game brings some disruption to the team ,and they just get on with it, for this game scrum half Ashley Bonetto played on the wing ,Ronan Barrett swiched to center ,and Ross Lucas played out of position at outside half ,while veteran prop John Davies started in place of captain Gareth Gibbs who is recovering from illness ,and there was also a first start for wing Owain Marchbank ,who looks a very good player. The trip back with a stop off at Builth wells rugby club for a sing along was the perfect end to a very good day . This Saturday ,if the rain ever stops Taffs Well are away at Tonyrefail kick off 2.30pm.
