There was a big crowd at Taffs Well on Saturday when the league leaders welcomed second place Tylorstown for a top of the table clash ,and Taffs Well once again showed they are a very good side ,with a convincing 34-0 win. On a heavy pitch ,the home side went on the attack resulting in a penalty ,which was converted by fullback Shaun Baggs ,that was followed with a try for center Ronan Barrett, giving the ex youth player his nineteenth try of the season ,in only thirteen games .The second try came from a good move by the backs ,with Barrett, breaking through to feed Gavin Close ,who crashed over in the corner . Wing Chris Burgwyn went over for his sides third try just before the break, which was converted by Baggs, for a 20-0 half time lead. The second period saw Taffs Well continue in the same way , with the bonus point forth try coming form flanker Justin Jones ,and that was followed by a try from outside half Ross Lucas who intercepted a Tylorstown pass to race over between the posts ,the convertion by Baggs gave Taffs Well a 34 --0 lead, which they held until the final whistle. The last twenty minutes saw a late surge from the visitors, but Taffs Well showed why they have gone three games without conceding a point ,defending as if their lives depended on it,although the game was won. During the last three games they have scored 150 points without conceding any ,a record to be proud of. There were several contenders for man of the match ,including flanker Justin Jones, and second row Jonathan Barry, but captain Gareth Gibbs ,who had a great game, and led his team brilliantly, was the worthy winner of a meal for two kindly donated by the Gwaelod inn.
