Tough home encounter but still unbeaten !!

League leaders Taffs Well continued their unbeaten run ,but only just ! Third place Abercwmboi  pushed the leaders all the way .After last weeks very physical game at Fairwater ,which resulted in a 18--16 win that puts Taffs Well onto the fifth round of the Swalec Bowl and a home home against Swansea Uplands on Saturday 26 March ,there was disappointment in midweek when the Silver Ball quarter final against Crynant was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Maesteg ,the game will now be played on Wednesday 30 march kick off 7.15 pm. The game against Abercwmboi was always going to be close following a narrow victory 12--7 for Taffs Well in the early round of the bowl competition ,and so it was , with both sides showing attacking intent the first 20 minutes was entertaining but produced no score ,until Taffs Well were awarded a penalty ,which outside half James Dixon slotted over to give his side a narrow lead, Abercwmboi came back strongly and after a  period of pressure they scored a try ,which was converted to give the visitors a 7--3 lead. As half time approached a kick and chase resulted in a try for wing Ronan Barrett, converted by Dixon, putting Taffs Well back in front 10--7 at the break. The second half was just as close with sides struggling  to achieve the breakthrough ,but once again Taffs Well produced a good break with Barrett crossing in the corner for his second try on the game, this was followed by a penalty goal by Dixon to stretch the lead to 18--10 ,which gave the home side a two score advantage ,which turned out to be crucial as Abercwmboi scored a converted try in the last minute of a very good game, to close the score to 18--17. Outside half James Dixon ,who signed from Abercynon in January received the man of the match award ,a meal for two at local pub the Gwaelod, while second row Jonathan Barry had another huge game. There was one record broken in the game as Taffs Well failed to score a four try bonus for the first time in 12 league games played so ,but the win against a very good side was all that really mattered     There was celebration at the club with the news that the second xv had gained promotion to division two  of the Cardiff and district league after a 50--0 win at Sea Veiw ,captain Paul Collings and team manager Hywel Graham are the be congratulated along with all the team.
