Season Openers- The Rugby Round Up

All of the Taff's Well rugby sections kicked off their seasons this weekend with a mixed bag of fortunes.

The First XV started their campaign with a narrow home defeat against Cowbridge, 0-10. A dogged arm-wrestle of a game, Taff's will be disappointed with the result but encouraged by the performance, with Man-of-the-Match Jon George a stand-out. The game was also notable for Matthew Desmier, earning his 200th Taff's Well cap, and Daryl Mota his 150th. Congrats to both for reaching such incredible milestones. The Club also used the occasion to mark the passing of Elwyn Williams, one of Taff's Well's famous rugby playing Williams' brothers, who tragically passed the week before.

The Women's XV fared far better in their season opener away at Porth Harlequins. A new and unfamiliar squad made the short journey North with trepidation but pulled together to win a tough game 10 points to nil, kicking off their season in style. Well done girls!!

Our Minis and Juniors section were also in action. The U10s drew their match away in Penallta 5 tries apiece, our U14s lost narrowly 19-25 to Treorchy, and the U15s went down to a heavy defeat against a strong Penallta side. In spite of the tough results, all the players enjoyed their rugby and are keen to get stuck into training and improve. Thanks to the coaching team and M&Js leadership for organising and running the fixtures.

We go again this week:

10/09 - First XV away at Llanishen, 1430 kick off.

11/09 - Senior Women home to Dowlais, 1430 kick off.
