Girls Bring The WRU Bowl Home to Taff's Well With Tense 15-10 Final Win over Morriston

WRU Bowl FInal    Venue: CCB Centre of Excellence - Ystrad Mynach

Not a game for the faint-hearted as somehow or other, the women managed to keep their line intact at the final whistle when down to twelve players thanks to three yellow cards as the bodies flew in from everywhere in a defensive display that will go down in club folklore.

Morriston bossed the first half with a try by impressive No. 8 Kate Davies plus a penalty and conversion by Captain and centre Lucy Rees. Taff's Well countered with a try by outside-half Catrin Davies to make the half-time score 10-5 against, as the aggressive Morriston pack showed their teeth. The second half saw the girls in black and white roll up their sleeves to enable livewire hooker Kayleigh Cushing to show all her Blues experience to go over for two power-tries in a team performance which totally justified the spoils. Great performances throughout the squad especially from the likes of Shauna Bowman-Rees, Ceri Tucker, Kayleigh Cushing, Catrin Davies and Beth Morgan. A great advert for the women's game with two totally committed sides giving everything as the incredible Taff's Well defence won the day.

Respect to the four officials who never get a mention (even if I did get told off for straying into the opposition technical zone) and a huge shout-out for the travelling support who really did act as the 16th player. You also have to mention winger Becci Cozens who received a nasty gash to her head early doors in the line of duty but returned looking like something from 'The Mummies Curse' and insisting she was ok to go back on. Thankfully, she was not allowed to return to the pitch but stayed to the end of the game and speeches before taking a taxi to get herself stitched up in hospital besides offers from the squad plus she missed the celebrations in the clubhouse afterwards as she was babysitting. Becci - you really did sum up the attitude on the day.

Final Score: Taff's Well RFC 15 v 10 Morriston RFC

Taff's Well 2nd XV 31 v 24 Whitstable

The club hosted touring side Whitstable of Kent on Saturday in an entertaining game which saw the home side coming out on top as they finished off their season as runners-up in the 1st Division of the Cardiff & District League. Great aftermatch camaraderie with an offer of a return match on the east coast.

The women still have four league matches to play and if you're too old or crocked to take to the field of play, keep an eye out for announcements on 'Walking Rugby' hitting Taff's Well. It's a great social game which is open to both men and women and an opportunity to put that glint back in your eye with a rugby ball in hand.
