Taffs Well will start 2016 unbeaten ,after a 66--0 victory over St Albans, and a perfect record of eight wins from eight league games with eight bonus points ,leaving them four points clear at the top of 3 east central b,and they have also reached the last 32 of the Swalec bowl after wins against Tongwynlais, Llandaff, and ,Abercwmboi. The game against St.Albans only went ahead thanks to Roger Watkins who spent most of Saturday morning forking and sanding the worst areas of the field, doing such a good job that referee Jacob Ellis had no hesitation in letting the game go ahead. Taffs Well once again had to reshuffle the team before the kick off, with Shaun Baggs Gavin Close Rhys Watkins and captain Gareth Gibbs all unavailable ,but the strength of the squad meant the team was not weakened in any way ,with John Davies ,Chris Burgwyn,Ashley Bonetto and Justin Jones, who had just recovered from a long lay off with injury, all playing a big part in the win .St Albans decision to have uncontested scrums from the start ,gave Taffs Well a few problems with defenders cluttering up the midfield , but after a while they got to grips with it and started to stretch the visitors across the park.,and the tries started to come. The score at half time was 21 -0 thanks to tries from wing Ronan Barrett ,Chris Burgwyn,on his return from injury ,and centre Ross Lucas, with Jamie field putting over all three conversions. After the break Taffs Well started to find space ,and although the visitors never gave up ,they could not prevent the onslaught that followed. Ronan Barrett went on the score three more tries ,to bring his total for the season to sixteen, Ross Lucas scored his second, his brother and scrum half Garyn nipped over for one ,with Max Watkins ,and,Mathew Wright completed the ten try route. Outside half Jamie Field ,who is enjoying a very good season, was in top form with his place kicking ,putting over eight of the ten conversion attempts to finish with an sixteen points total. St Albans kept working hard right to the final whistle ,creating their best chance to score just before the end ,but could not finish off a good move and the game ended without them managing to score. On Saturday Taffs Well travel to Llandrindod Wells ,and with no second team game ,they hope to fill the bus ,which will be leaving at 10.30 am. Mike Gibbons
