U12s & Unbeaten Women brighten weekend

Taff's Well's rugby teams suffered contrasting fortunes across the weekend, as the Senior Men's sides both came out on the wrong side of close fought matches on Saturday, only for the U-12s and unbeaten Women's team to score handsome victories on Sunday.

The First XV travelled on the road up the valley to Gilfach Goch - and despite scoring six tries ended up on the wrong end of a 34-32 scoreline as their hosts registered their first win of the season. Taff's will rue first half ill-discipline and poor game management whilst ahead in the second half, in a game they may otherwise have won. They'll also come away feeling slightly aggrieved having had two tries ruled out and the untimely intervention of a toddler on the field whilst in a promising attacking position. They next play at home to Llanishen at the Maes on 21st.

The emerging Second XV put on a good show in defeat to St Peters III. Having suffered a couple of last minute withdrawals, Dai Edmunds' team scored two tries in a gallant home defeat, 12-22.

With Cymru and Iwerddon then exiting the World Cup, Saturday night was NOT alright, Elton.

Roll forward to Sunday and the autumnal sunshine brought much better fortunes to the Club. Firstly, our wonderful U-12s won 33-26 away on the road to Blackwood. Very much an emerging team for the future of our Club, the victory is testament to the hard work the young Taff's Wellians put in, and the commitment of the parents and coaches. Ymlaen!

Then came the Women, who put in the performance of the weekend at the Maes against Whitchurch. Putting their Cup heartbreak at Tumble last week behind them, they maintained their unbeaten start in the League, putting 63 points on their opponents whilst keeping a defensive shut out. They stay top of Admiral Women's League East, four wins from four. A tough away game awaits next week at Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd.
